The Architecture Loop - From Clarity to Complexity and Back Again
Every architecture starts simple. Or better said, start simple, don't make the most common failure and over-architect at the beginning.
Then businesses and organizations grow, requirements evolve, and the system gets more and more complex.
From time to time, we find ourselves asking:
"How did it get this complicated?" or "How did it get this complicated again?"
The truth behind it is basic: complexity never disappears, it can just be well moderated.
We only choose at which level complexity lives:
Inside the architecture (well-structured and transparent), or
Inside the organization (hidden in processes, handovers, and Excel files).
Architecture cannot eliminate complexity. Good architecture manages it consciously.
It creates clarity, not by making things smaller, but by making them understandable and adaptable.
That's the real loop of architecture:
From clarity to complexity back to clarity! Again and again. Every iteration brings its own challenges.
Where do you see most of the complexity in your organization? In Systems, Processes, or Communication?
